The Ekumfi District Assembly on Friday, March 6, 2026, joined the rest of the nation to celebrate Ghana’s 69th Independence Day with a vibrant parade and cultural exhibition at the Essauhyia School Park. The event, held under the national theme "Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope," brought together students, traditional leaders, security agencies, and residents from across the district to reflect on the country's journey since 1957.
A total of 25 schools, including primary, junior high, and senior high schools within the Ekumfi District, participated in the annual march past. Dressed in neat uniforms, the students marched to the rhythmic melodies of the local brass band, demonstrating high levels of discipline and patriotism. Officers from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service also participated in the parade, adding a sense of dignity to the days’ events.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) delivered a keynote address on behalf of the President. He emphasized that the theme of "Building Prosperity" starts at the local level. "Independence is not merely a historical event but a continuous call to duty," the DCE added. He urged the youth of Ekumfi to prioritize education and avoid social vices, noting that the development of the district heavily depends on the quality of its human resources.
The Member of Parliament for Ekumfi, Hon. Dr. Ekow Kwainoe, addressed the gathering with a focus on local economic empowerment. He noted that true independence is realized when the youth are equipped with the skills necessary to thrive in a modern economy. "Our independence must be felt in the pockets of our people," the MP stated.
He highlighted his commitment to expanding vocational training and supporting small-scale businesses in the district to align with the national goal of "Building Prosperity." He also urged constituents to remain united, stressing that political differences should never overshadow the collective development of Ekumfi.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of awards to schools that excelled in the march past, as well as citations to long-serving teachers and community members who have significantly contributed to the district's growth.
