A major step toward local economic transformation was realized on April 13, 2026, as the official site handover for the construction of the 24-Hour Economy Model Market took place. The project is part of a strategic initiative by the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development to modernize trade and stimulate round-the-clock commercial activity within the district.
The project is part of a strategic initiative by the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development to modernize trade and stimulate round-the-clock commercial activity within the district.
The project, unlike traditional markets, focuses on infrastructure that supports continuous operation, ensuring that the local economy in Ekumfi remains vibrant both day and night.
The formal Site Possession Certificate was signed and executed, marking the transition from planning to active construction. Funded by the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), the project is being managed by the Central Regional Coordinating Council (CRCC) as the client, with Matana Construction Ltd. serving as the contractor and WD Global Engineering Consult Limited overseeing the work as consultants.
Representatives from the Ekumfi District Assembly, headed by the District Chief Executive (D.C.E.), joined the technical teams to finalize the commencement of works. The certificate of possession grants the contractor full access to the site at Ekumfi Akwakrom to begin construction in accordance with the approved architectural designs.
This project represents a commitment to the "24-hour economy" vision, aimed at creating jobs, increasing revenue for the Assembly, and providing a safer, more organized space for the people of Ekumfi and surrounding communities. With the site now officially handed over, residents can expect to see mobilization and construction activity begin immediately, signaling a new era of sustainable development for the district.
