The Ekumfi District Assembly has officially cut the sod for the construction of a 24-Hour Economy Model Market and Commercial Centre at Essuehyia, marking a significant step towards improving commercial infrastructure and accelerating economic development in the district. The ceremony, held at the School Park in Essuehyia on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, brought together government officials, traditional authorities, Assembly Members, market women, youth groups and residents to witness the commencement of the flagship project under Government's 24-Hour Economy initiative.
The sod-cutting ceremony was attended by the Member of Parliament for Ekumfi Constituency, Hon. Dr. Othniel Ekow Kwainoe, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Ismael Nana Asamoah, Assembly officials and other stakeholders, who reaffirmed their commitment to promoting sustainable economic growth through strategic infrastructure development. They expressed optimism that the project would create employment opportunities, support local businesses and improve the livelihoods of residents across the district.
The modern market is designed to provide a conducive environment for commerce and will feature essential facilities including banking services, a police post, fire service post, crèche, supermarket, lockable stores, warehouse, food court and open trading sheds. As part of the Government's nationwide rollout of 24-Hour Economy Model Markets, the facility is expected to enhance trading activities, improve agricultural value chains and strengthen the local economy by providing a secure and accessible marketplace for traders and entrepreneurs.
Upon completion, the 24-Hour Economy Model Market is expected to become a major commercial hub serving Essuehyia and surrounding communities, attracting investment and expanding business opportunities within the district.
