In a significant move indicating a major transformation towards modernized public administration, the leadership of the Local Government Service has conducted a working visit to the district assemblies in the Central Region.
During a prominent working visit to the Ekumfi District Assembly on Friday, February 13, 2026, a delegation led by Professor Lord Kwaku Mensah, Head of the Local Government Service, along with Chief Director Mrs. Felicia Dapaah Agyeman-Boakye, arrived at the assembly not only to familiarize themselves but to present a framework for what they refer to as a "data-first" agenda aimed at improving local governance and service delivery.
At the core of Professor Mensah’s speech was a call for a fundamental change in how local districts function. In a time where efficiency is crucial, the Head of Service stressed that resource allocation should no longer rely on assumptions.
Instead, he promoted a thorough, data-driven method to ensure that policy planning and community investments are supported by factual evidence. "Professionalism and ethical conduct are the foundation of our service," Professor Mensah remarked, addressing a gathering of management and staff. He balanced this appeal for discipline with a practical strategy for growth: the expansion of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs).
By utilizing private sector investment and expertise, the OHLGS aims to close the infrastructure gap that has historically hindered rural development. Professor Mensah highlighted the importance of physical decentralization to bring services closer to communities, thereby improving accessibility and responsiveness. In a move widely appreciated by the assembly's workforce, Professor Mensah acknowledged the human aspect of administration.
He proposed the immediate establishment of a crèche facility within the assembly to support nursing mothers. According to the Head of Service, fostering a supportive environment for staff is vital for sustaining high productivity and morale.
The Chief Director, Mrs. Felicia Dapaah Agyeman-Boakye, in her remarks, encouraged the staff to take advantage of ongoing training and capacity-building opportunities offered by the service to enhance their skills.
The visit concluded with a clear directive to the Ekumfi District Assembly to adopt these recommendations. Management expressed their willingness to collaborate and implement the directives to ensure the district becomes a benchmark of excellence in local government administration.
