This initiative is part of the Assembly’s larger vision to transform Ekumfi into a premier investment and tourism hub.
By recognizing the variety and scale of businesses operating within its area, ranging from large agro-processing facilities like the Ekumfi Juice Factory to small retail kiosks in Otuam, the Assembly aims to shift from speculative planning to governance based on solid data.
While registration is a regulatory necessity, the Assembly highlights that this process offers substantial benefits to the entrepreneurs themselves. By obtaining Formal Recognition, registered businesses acquire a legal identity, making it considerably easier to apply for government grants and formal credit options.
Moreover, the database enables the Assembly to provide Targeted Support, directing specific training programs and resources to the sectors that require them the most, such as fishing in coastal communities or shea processing in rural areas.
This information also aids in Infrastructural Planning, assisting the Assembly in determining where to prioritize roads, electricity, and market stalls based on business clusters. Most importantly, a formal record offers a layer of Security and Accountability, granting business owners greater legitimacy in their interactions with the public and financial institutions.
