The Ekumfi District Assembly has inaugurated Area Councils within the District in a bid to promote transparency and accountability in the decentralization of governance. The Area Council inauguration ceremonies were undertaken for Narkwa area council, Eyisam area council, Asaafa area council, Ekrawfu area council, Otuam area council, Immuna area council, Essarkyir area council and Ebiram area council on the following dates.
During these inauguration ceremonies, The District Coordinating Director, Mr. Prince Kwame Newman, after an opening prayer welcomed the Chiefs (Nananom), opinion leaders, elected Area Council members, youth leaders and other members of the communities present and then called on the team of staff present at the event to introduce themselves after which Area Council members to do likewise. He then handed over to the District Chief Executive, Hon. Ebenezer Akwasi Monney, who once again welcomed everybody present and thanked them for making time to attend the event.
The Hon. DCE informed elected Area Council members and every other person at the inauguration events of the core mandate and responsibilities of Area Council. The District Chief Executive said, revenues collected from each Area Council would divided into two with a half going into the coffers of the Area Council. These funds would be used for running the office and other projects.
The Hon. DCE also called on the Chiefs (Nananom) to support members of the Area council to undertake the mandate that they are tasked to carry out. After which, he inaugurated the Area Council and swore the members of the council in by reading and signing an oath of office.
The newly sworn-in members of the Area Council were asked to nominate a member amongst them to become a Chairperson whom afterwards was formally accepted and tasked to ensure the council undertook its mandates.
The Hon. DCE handed over to the DCD, who opened a forum for the Chiefs (Nananom) and other members of the communities present at the event to share their opinions and asks questions which in-turn were acknowledged and answered respectively.
